Moving from ClickFunnels to GoHighLevel is one of the most common projects we handle. The motivation is usually the same: consolidating funnels, email, SMS, booking and CRM into one platform and one bill. The move is very achievable, but it is not a button click. This guide walks through a migration plan that protects your leads, revenue and search rankings.
Golden rule: do not cancel ClickFunnels until everything in GoHighLevel has been rebuilt, tested and has run live for at least a week. Overlapping subscriptions for a month is cheap insurance.
What moves easily and what must be rebuilt
| Asset | How it moves | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts, tags, custom fields | CSV export and import with field mapping | Low |
| Products and offers | Recreated in GHL, linked to the same Stripe account | Low – Medium |
| Funnels and pages | Rebuilt in the GHL funnel builder | Medium – High |
| Email sequences and broadcasts | Copy moved, rebuilt as workflows and templates | Medium |
| Automations / workflows | Logic redesigned in GHL workflows | Medium – High |
| Courses and memberships | Content re-uploaded; members imported and granted access | Medium – High |
| Domains | DNS repointed to GHL | Low (but timing matters) |
| Active subscriptions | Stay in Stripe; access managed in GHL | Needs careful planning |
A realistic migration timeline
Here is how a mid-sized migration (around 10 funnels, 20 automations, one course and 10,000 to 30,000 contacts) typically unfolds. Smaller accounts compress this to one or two weeks; very large ones stretch it.
| Week | Focus | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Audit, field mapping, GHL foundation, email domain and A2P submission | Written migration plan; compliance clock started |
| Week 2 | Contact import, products, highest-traffic funnels | Core lead capture working in GHL |
| Week 3 | Workflows, remaining funnels, course and membership rebuild | Full system built in draft |
| Week 4 | End-to-end testing, member access, redirects, domain switch | Live on GoHighLevel |
| Weeks 5–6 | Parallel running, fixes, email warm-up, ClickFunnels cancellation | Migration complete |
Starting A2P 10DLC registration and email authentication in week one matters because they depend on third parties and can take days to clear.
Step 1: Audit everything you have
Before touching GoHighLevel, make an inventory. Migrations go wrong because of the forgotten thank-you page or the automation nobody remembered was running. List:
- Every funnel and page that receives traffic. Your analytics will show which ones actually matter.
- Every automation and email sequence, with its trigger and purpose.
- All products, prices, order bumps, upsells and coupons.
- Courses, membership areas and who has access to what.
- Integrations: Zapier zaps, webhooks, ad pixels, affiliate tools.
- Domains, subdomains and the URLs linked from ads, emails and social profiles.
This is also the moment to cut. Most accounts carry funnels and sequences that no longer earn their keep, and there is no reason to rebuild them.
Step 2: Set up the GoHighLevel foundation
Build the structure before importing anything:
- Custom fields and tags that match the data you are bringing over. Use consistent naming so reports and smart lists stay clean.
- Pipelines and stages that reflect how leads actually move through your sales process.
- Email sending domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC set up, so your first GHL emails do not land in spam.
- Phone numbers and A2P 10DLC registration if you will text US contacts. See our A2P 10DLC guide; approval can take days, so start early.
- Stripe connection using the same Stripe account you use with ClickFunnels.
Step 3: Import contacts the right way
Export contacts from ClickFunnels as CSV, then clean the file before import: remove duplicates, fix obvious typos in emails, and standardise phone numbers in international format. During import, map each column to the right GHL field and tag the batch (for example imported-from-cf) so you can find and segment them later.
Example field mapping
Plan the mapping in a spreadsheet before importing. A simple version looks like this:
| ClickFunnels export column | GoHighLevel field | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First Name / Last Name | First Name / Last Name | Standard fields |
| Used to de-duplicate contacts | ||
| Phone | Phone | Convert to international format, e.g. +1 555… |
| Tags | Tags | Clean up and rename inconsistent tags first |
| Purchased product | Custom field or tag, e.g. customer-course-a | Drives access and segmentation |
| Opt-in source / funnel | Custom field Original Source | Keeps attribution after the move |
| Created date | Custom date field Original Signup Date | The import date will otherwise replace it |
| Unsubscribed status | DND (do not disturb) settings | Critical: never re-subscribe opted-out contacts |
Import a small test batch of 20 to 50 contacts first, check that every field landed correctly, then import the rest.
One important point: respect consent. Only contacts who opted in to marketing should be added to marketing campaigns in GHL. Importing a list does not give you new permission to text or email it.
Step 4: Rebuild funnels for speed and conversion
Rebuilding sounds like extra work, but it is an opportunity. Use it to:
- Compress images and remove heavy scripts so pages load fast on mobile.
- Simplify forms to the fields you actually use.
- Keep the same URL paths where possible, or plan redirects (Step 7).
- Reinstall tracking pixels and conversion events, then test them.
Step 5: Recreate automations as GHL workflows
Do not copy automations one-to-one. Redesign them around GoHighLevel's strengths: add SMS where it helps, use goal events to stop sequences when someone books or buys, and route leads into pipeline stages automatically. Our list of essential GoHighLevel workflows is a good starting blueprint.
Build each workflow in draft, test it with internal test contacts, and only then publish.
Step 6: Move courses and memberships
Recreate the course structure in GHL Memberships, upload lessons, and set up offers that grant access. Import existing members and grant them the correct offer, ideally through a workflow so access is consistent. Send a friendly email explaining the new login before switching, as this avoids a flood of support requests.
Handling active subscriptions
Recurring payments live in Stripe, not in ClickFunnels. As long as you keep the same Stripe account, existing subscriptions keep billing. The key is making sure customers keep access: map each active subscriber to the right GHL offer, and use Stripe events or workflows to revoke access when a subscription is cancelled. Test this with a real low-cost subscription before going live.
Step 7: Switch domains and protect your SEO
- Pick a low-traffic window for the switch.
- Lower your DNS TTL a day before, so changes propagate quickly.
- Point the domain to GoHighLevel and connect it to the right funnel or website.
- Set up 301 redirects for any URLs that changed, especially pages that rank on Google or are linked from ads.
- Update links in ad campaigns, email footers, social bios and link-in-bio tools.
- Submit your new sitemap in Google Search Console and watch for crawl errors.
Protect email deliverability during the switch
Moving to a new sending platform is one of the most common causes of a sudden drop in email open rates. Inbox providers see mail coming from new infrastructure and treat it cautiously. To avoid landing in spam:
- Authenticate first. Set up a dedicated sending domain in GoHighLevel with SPF, DKIM and DMARC before sending anything.
- Warm up gradually. Start by emailing your most engaged contacts (opened or clicked recently), then widen the audience over one to three weeks.
- Hold back cold segments. Contacts who have not engaged in six months or more are better re-engaged later with a dedicated campaign, or cleaned out.
- Keep content familiar. Use the same sender name and a similar style so subscribers recognise you.
- Monitor closely. Watch bounce, complaint and open rates daily in the first weeks and slow down if they worsen.
Step 8: Test, run in parallel, then cancel
Run every path as a customer would: opt in, buy, upsell, book, cancel, and log in to the course. Check that emails arrive, SMS sends, pipelines update and payments appear in Stripe. Let the new system run with live traffic for at least a week while ClickFunnels is still active as a fallback. Then export any final data and cancel.
Common migration mistakes to avoid
- Cancelling ClickFunnels too early and losing access to pages, data or order history you still need.
- Importing unsubscribed contacts as active, which risks spam complaints and compliance trouble.
- Forgetting the hidden pages: thank-you pages, order confirmation pages and links inside old emails.
- Switching DNS before testing, so live traffic hits half-built funnels.
- Copying automations one-to-one instead of redesigning them for GoHighLevel's workflow builder.
- Leaving tracking until last, which creates a gap in ad attribution right when you need it most.
- Not telling members about the new login, which floods support on day one.
Migrating from HubSpot or Keap instead?
The same eight-step process applies, with a few differences:
- HubSpot usually means more CRM data: companies, deals, deal stages, notes and activity history. Map HubSpot pipelines to GHL pipelines and decide how much history you genuinely need. Many teams export old history for reference rather than importing it all.
- Keap (Infusionsoft) accounts often have complex, years-old campaign builders and tag logic. Expect the workflow redesign to take longer, and audit tags carefully because many will be obsolete.
- Kajabi migrations focus on courses, communities and subscriptions, so plan member access and Stripe subscriptions as the priority.
For budgeting, see the migration line in our GoHighLevel developer cost guide. Most migrations fall between $1,000 and $6,000 depending on size and complexity.
Migration checklist

Migrations reward careful planning. If you would rather hand it off, our team handles complete migrations to GoHighLevel with zero downtime and a written plan before we start.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import my ClickFunnels funnels directly into GoHighLevel?
Not reliably. The two page builders work differently, so funnels are generally rebuilt in GoHighLevel. Cloning tools exist, but their output usually needs significant cleanup. Rebuilding is also a good chance to improve speed and conversion.
Will I lose my contacts when moving to GoHighLevel?
No. Contacts export from ClickFunnels as a CSV and import into GoHighLevel with their tags and custom fields mapped. Plan the field mapping before import so nothing lands in the wrong place.
What happens to active subscriptions during a migration?
Active subscriptions live in your payment processor, usually Stripe. Keep the same Stripe account connected so billing continues uninterrupted, and use GoHighLevel workflows to manage access and follow-up.
How long does a ClickFunnels to GoHighLevel migration take?
Small accounts with a few funnels typically take one to two weeks. Larger accounts with memberships, many automations and tens of thousands of contacts usually take three to six weeks including testing.
